On the Cusp of Greatness: Rita Igbokwe’s WNBA Training Camp Opportunity

After wrapping up her collegiate basketball career, Rita Igbokwe of Ole Miss women’s basketball has secured an opportunity to vie for a place in the training camp of the WNBA’s New York Liberty. This chance comes alongside her teammate Marquesha Davis, who was snagged by the Liberty in the first round of the WNBA Draft.

During her tenure at Ole Miss, Igbokwe showcased her defensive prowess, emerging as a standout player for the Rebels. With an impressive tally of 54 blocks, she spearheaded Ole Miss’ defensive efforts, contributing to the team’s record-breaking season of 190 program blocks.

Notably, Ole Miss joined the ranks of just four SEC programs to achieve 150 or more blocks for two consecutive seasons. Igbokwe played a pivotal role in Ole Miss’ journey to its third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, finishing the season as the Rebels’ second-leading rebounder with an average of 5.8 boards per game.

Her defensive impact was evident, as she averaged 1.64 blocks per game, securing her place among the top defenders in the competitive SEC.

Should Davis and Igbokwe secure spots on the Liberty’s final roster, they would join the ranks of esteemed Rebels who have graced the WNBA court, further solidifying Ole Miss’ presence in the professional women’s basketball arena.
