Pennsylvania American Water Launches Interactive Map for Identifying and Replacing Lead Service Lines

Pennsylvania American Water has introduced an innovative web-based map to engage customers in identifying and reporting the material of their water service lines. The initiative aims to enhance awareness and facilitate the replacement of lead service lines.

The interactive map, accessible at pennsylvaniaamwater.com/LeadFacts, features an address search bar and a symbol and color key. It was developed in compliance with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s requirements for water utilities to disclose the locations of lead service lines by October 2024.

Brandy Braun, the director of water quality and environmental compliance at Pennsylvania American Water, emphasized the company’s commitment to transparency and proactive communication with customers.

The map not only informs customers about their service line materials but also educates them on measures to reduce lead exposure and participate in the lead service line replacement program at no cost.

Customers can input their address into the map, which zooms in to display the service line material on both the utility and customer sides. If the material on the customer-owned side is unknown, customers are encouraged to report it through a self-reporting survey link provided on the map.

Additionally, the webpage offers resources such as videos, FAQs, and guides to assist customers in understanding the company’s approach to lead service line replacement and assessing potential lead exposure.

In 2024, Pennsylvania American Water aims to double its efforts in replacing lead service lines, with a goal of eventually replacing all lead service lines. The company’s dedication to providing safe and reliable water services underscores its mission to “Keep Life Flowing.”

Pennsylvania American Water, a subsidiary of American Water, is the largest regulated water utility in the state, serving approximately 2.3 million people. For more information, visit amwater.com.
