VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin spoke at the Virginia Energy Summit in Virginia Beach on Friday. He highlighted Virginia’s recognition as CNBC’s top state for business but noted that as the state grows, so does its energy needs.
Youngkin pointed out that Virginia imports over 30% of its power from neighboring states like North Carolina and emphasized the importance of exploring various energy sources such as hydrogen and natural gas.
He also updated attendees on the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project, stating that it is progressing as planned. Youngkin stressed the importance of staying on schedule and budget due to the project’s significant impact on ratepayers.
Additionally, Youngkin expressed strong support for nuclear energy, advocating for the completion of the country’s first small modular nuclear reactor in Virginia. Dominion has recently announced it is seeking proposals for this reactor in Louisa County.
