MADISON, Wis. – As holiday travel ramps up, Wisconsin drivers are enjoying the cheapest gas prices since the pandemic. AAA Wisconsin reports the average price per gallon is $2.86, a low not seen since 2020.
AAA Director of Public Affairs Nick Jarmusz attributes the drop to the end of peak summer travel, steady supply and demand, and the absence of major global disruptions.
“We’ve had so many disruptions in the last four to five years between COVID and then the Ukraine conflict that has sent prices either far down or bringing them to historic highs,” Jarmusz explained. “We kind of forget what normal is.”
The favorable balance between lower demand and ample supply is keeping prices stable, with Jarmusz predicting further decreases. “I don’t think we’ve seen the lowest prices we’ll see this year yet,” he said.
Tips for Saving at the Pump
Drivers can save even more during the holidays by optimizing their driving habits. Sticking to the speed limit and avoiding aggressive driving can improve fuel efficiency by up to 40%, Jarmusz advised, potentially leading to significant savings.
Travel Advisory
For those hitting the roads before Thanksgiving, AAA suggests traveling during the morning hours on Tuesday or Wednesday to avoid heavy traffic. Roads are expected to be busiest in the afternoons leading up to the holiday.
With gas prices at a record low, the season looks a bit brighter for travelers across Wisconsin.
