The National Weather Service has issued an updated weather alert, effective from 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, indicating heavy snowfall until 6:30 p.m. for several areas including Northern Wayne, Southern Wayne, Susquehanna, and Lackawanna counties.
According to the weather service, as of 5:29 p.m., a band of heavy snow is observed along a line extending from near Kirkwood to near Nicholson, moving southeast at 30 MPH.
Locations directly impacted by this warning span across Carbondale, Honesdale, Jackson, Clifford, Susquehanna, Forest City, Susquehanna Depot, Montrose, Dimock, and Harford. Commuters using highway exits along Pennsylvania Interstate 81 between exits 206 and 230 are advised to be especially cautious.
It’s emphasized by the weather service that conditions can swiftly deteriorate in winter weather scenarios. Motorists are advised to anticipate snow or ice-covered roads and to adjust their speed accordingly, allowing extra time to reach their destinations. Caution is urged for those traveling within or through this heavy snow band, as visibility may change rapidly and roads could become slick, potentially leading to accidents.
This alert is facilitated through Advance Local Weather Alerts, a service provided by United Robots, which employs machine learning algorithms to aggregate the latest data from the National Weather Service.
