Virginia Man Charged with Death Threats Against Vice President Kamala Harris

A Virginia man, Frank Lucio Carillo, has been charged with making death threats against Vice President Kamala Harris. He appeared in federal court on Monday.

Court records indicate that Carillo posted threats against Harris, President Joe Biden, FBI Director Christopher Wray, several Arizona officials, and others on the right-wing social media platform Gettr.

The FBI, responding to a subpoena, found 4,359 posts from Carillo targeting various public officials, including Harris.

In several posts, Carillo allegedly threatened to harm Harris, using graphic and violent language. In one instance, he threatened to “cut your eyes out” and expressed hope that Harris would “suffer a slow agonizing death.”

The court records also mention other similar threats, including one post from 2023 where Carillo encouraged violence against Muslims.

When FBI agents arrived at Carillo’s home, he acknowledged the posts, saying, “I posted it,” and added, “I guess I’m gonna need a lawyer.” Federal agents confiscated two firearms from his home: a pistol purchased in 2023 and a rifle bought this year.

A hearing is scheduled for Thursday to determine whether Carillo will remain in custody while awaiting further proceedings.

CNN has reached out to Carillo’s attorney for comment.
