Virginia Leaders React to Shooting at Trump Rally in Pennsylvania

RICHMOND, Va. —  Several Virginia leaders and representatives have spoken out after shots were fired at a rally held by former President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania.

Governor Glenn Youngkin expressed his concern on X, saying, “Suzanne and I are praying for President Trump, praying for his family, and praying for America.”

Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares also shared his thoughts and prayers, stating, “Any and all forms of political violence are unacceptable and disgusting. Prayers for protection and healing for the President, any innocent bystanders, and for law enforcement to arrest all perpetrators involved in this monstrous attempt on Trump’s life.”

U.S. Senator Mark Warner from Virginia also commented on the situation, saying, “There is no place for political violence in a democracy. I’m monitoring this terrible situation and praying for all those at the Pennsylvania rally.”

According to the Associated Press, around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, former President Donald Trump was quickly escorted off stage by Secret Service members after shots were fired at his rally in Butler County, Pennsylvania.

Live video footage from the rally showed Trump ducking to the ground while clutching his right ear after the shots were heard. Once Secret Service agents reached him, he stood up with blood on the side of his face and pumped his fist in the air.

Trump’s team later reported that he is “fine.” Butler County District Attorney Richard Goldinger confirmed the deaths of the gunman and at least one attendee.

The Secret Service reported that agents “neutralized” the shooter and that two other spectators were critically injured.

President Joe Biden addressed the nation shortly after the shooting, condemning the violence.
