Veterans Honored with Ceremony at MacGregor Park in Derry

Members of the Derry American Legion Post 9 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1617 arranged for a Veterans Day ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 11, at MacGregor Park, that honored Disabled Veterans. The Master of Ceremony for the event was the Senior Vice Commander for both VFW Post 1617 and Post 9, Ed Hodgson. Hodgson stood in for the guest speaker who was unable to attend the ceremony. He recited a poem for the Disabled by Wilfred Owen, a British poet who was killed in action during World War I. Pinkerton Academy senior Ethan Boucher was invited to sing the National Anthem and “America the Beautiful.”
Also speaking were Post 9 Commander Tony Travia and VFW Post 1617 Commander Issac Miller.
Town Council Chairman Jim Morgan read the Council’s Proclamation, he also asked those attending to thank and respect those who have served.
After the ceremony, people were invited to an open house at the VFW Post.
