Veterans Honored During Ceremony at MacGregor Park

Members of VFW Post 1617 and American Legion Post 9 in Derry held their annual Veterans Day Ceremony at MacGregor Park. This year’s ceremony focused on Suicide Awareness.

Issac Miller, Commander of the VFW Post 1617 read the poem “Mission 22: From Me2U Pt2” to those attending. The poem’s focus is on the effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and suicide.

Retired Military Master Sergeant with the U.S. Special Forces was the Guest Speaker at the event. He shared stories of his life as a sniper overseas and the struggles of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder that he and many he knows suffer from.

Derry Town Councilors Josh Bordon and Erin Spencer attend the service and spoke briefly about their thanks to veterans and read the Town Council’s Veterans Day Proclamation.

Junior Vice Chair, Brian Selling, gave introductions throughout the event and the American Legion Honor Guard presented colors.
