United Third-Graders Compete in Annual Pennsylvania Bee

The United School District held its annual Pennsylvania Bee competition on Thursday at the elementary school, where third-graders showcased their knowledge of Pennsylvania’s geography, history, and trivia.

This year, the top honors went to Laken Mack, who took first place, followed by Blake Fairman in second, Hannah Saylor in third, Ashton Dubics in fourth, and Kira Elkin in fifth.

According to third-grade teacher Aimee Erwin, the goal of the competition is to educate students about Pennsylvania’s rich geography and history, in line with the Pennsylvania Common Core standards. A total of 38 students participated in the event, with the winner receiving a commemorative shirt.

The format of the competition had students randomly grouped into sets of four. They answered questions by pressing a buzzer, with the quickest correct response moving them to the next round. By the fifth and final round, six students were left, battling it out to see who could answer the most questions correctly.
