They’re the lone remaining undefeated team in Division I girls’ soccer, and there are plenty of reasons for opponents to shudder when they find that coach Steve Gundrum’s Pinkerton Academy girl booters are the next opponent on their schedule.
The PA group pushed its 2015 record up to 10-0 Tuesday, Sept. 29, by handing the winless Manchester Memorial Lady Crusaders a 3-0 blanking on their home pitch in the Queen City.
The Lady Astros led 2-0 at the half and wound up putting the final touches on their seventh shutout of the campaign by scoring the lone goal of the second period as well.
Nicole Alves notched two of the PA tallies, Christina Ridenour potted the other, and Courtney Velho, Reanna Romano, and Mel Roberge all registered assists. Goalie Sammy Mitchell didn’t need to make a save in the blanking.
The three-goal effort left the academy squad’s goals scored to goals allowed ratio at a stunning 28-3.
The locals then began this week with a home match against the visiting Spaulding High Lady Red Raiders from Rochester, and the visitors stepped into that Monday battle with a 4-7 record.
The Lady Astros took care of business against their sub-.500 guest in a 2-1 victory.
The victorious locals received goals from Brittney Johnson and Nicole Gonya, two assists from Emily Hallee, and four saves from keeper Sammy Mitchell in remaining perfect where record was concerned.
The win brought their DI record to 11-0 with five games left in the regular season.
