U.S. Marshals Add Olalekan Olawusi to 15 Most Wanted List for Infant’s Murder

Washington, DC – Olalekan Abimbola Olawusi, a 48-year-old man wanted for first-degree murder, serious bodily injury to a child, and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, has been added to the U.S. Marshals Service 15 Most Wanted fugitives list. Authorities are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to his arrest.

Olawusi faces charges stemming from the death of his 3-month-old son in Providence, Rhode Island. On April 3, 2017, emergency personnel found the infant bleeding from the mouth and nose, and he was transported to the hospital in cardiac arrest. Doctors documented 18 injuries in various stages of healing, including a skull fracture, brain injury, and multiple fractures, indicating prolonged abuse. The child, who was placed on life support, succumbed to his injuries on October 31, 2017.

Initially arrested for child abuse on April 20, 2017, Olawusi was released the same day and fled. Authorities later upgraded the charges to murder following the infant’s death.

Investigations revealed Olawusi flew out of John F. Kennedy International Airport in June 2017, using a Nigerian passport. Officials believe he may be in Nigeria, potentially receiving assistance from family members, and warn he could pose a risk to other children.

“Mr. Olawusi is wanted for the abuse and murder of an innocent child and has fled the country to avoid justice,” stated Ronald L. Davis, Director of the U.S. Marshals Service. “We will exhaust all resources to bring him to justice for his family and the community.”

Olawusi, also known as Olekun Olawusi, is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 185 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

If you have information on Olawusi’s whereabouts, please contact the U.S. Marshals Service or your local authorities.
