Pilot celebrated the opening of a new convenience store in Tuskegee, Alabama, on December 16, strategically located near the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site.
This new location honors the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen, the first African-American military pilots in U.S. history. The store’s design features a replica of the original Moton Field Control Tower and signage recognizing the 1,578 missions flown by the Tuskegee Airmen and the 850 awards received by them.
Additional design elements include a replica P-51 Mustang Red Tail ceiling tribute, symbolizing the planes flown by the Tuskegee pilots. This project was developed in partnership with the Macon County Economic Development Authority and Tuskegee University, connecting history, education, and community impact.
The grand opening event featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony with remarks from local officials and a $20,000 donation to the Macon County Board of Education to support local students.
The new Pilot location is expected to bring new jobs and significant economic impact to Tuskegee. The travel center offers amenities such as 93 parking spaces for professional drivers, self-checkouts, fresh food options, a variety of coffee including seasonal flavors, clean restrooms, showers, and modern laundry facilities.
Pilot, which ranks No. 15 on CSP’s 2024 Top 202 list of U.S. convenience-store chains by store count, operates nearly 900 locations across 44 states and six Canadian provinces. It is a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway and provides a variety of services to trucking fleets, including fuel, maintenance, and rewards. The company is also expanding its EV charging network and low-carbon fueling options.
