Tulsi Gabbard Switches Parties: Former Democrat Joins GOP at Trump Rally

Former Democratic Representative Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii has officially announced her switch to the Republican Party, marking a significant departure from her previous political affiliation.

The announcement took place at a rally for former President Donald Trump, whom she endorsed for the 2024 presidential election in August.

In her speech at the rally, Gabbard expressed her love for the country and praised Trump for revitalizing the Republican Party, stating, I’m proud to stand here with you today, President Trump, and announce that I’m joining the Republican Party.

She emphasized her belief that the GOP is the party of the people and highlighted its historical roots in the fight against slavery, calling it a party of equality and common sense.

Gabbard has been critical of the Democratic establishment, particularly regarding U.S. military engagements abroad. Notably, she was the only Democrat to vote “present” during Trump’s first impeachment in 2019.

After not seeking reelection for her House seat in 2020, Gabbard ran in the crowded Democratic primary, which Biden ultimately won. She has since distanced herself from the Democratic Party, becoming an independent and actively supporting Republican candidates while appearing regularly on conservative media outlets.

Her shift in allegiance underscores the growing ideological divisions within American politics, particularly as figures like Gabbard move away from traditional party lines.
