Recent polling from Alaska Survey Research indicates that while former President Donald Trump still holds a lead over Vice President Kamala Harris in Alaska, the race has become somewhat tighter than usual for the solidly Republican state.
Trump garners 55% support compared to Harris’ 45% in a head-to-head matchup. Among super voters, those most likely to vote, the margin narrows further, with Trump leading 52% to Harris’ 48%.
This suggests that Harris is generating enthusiasm, a key factor in potentially closing the gap, according to pollster Ivan Moore, who noted on X that Harris’ positive rating among super voters was 67%, compared to Trump’s 61%.
The narrowing margin aligns with growing support for Democratic candidates in Alaska’s other recent races. Representative Mary Peltola, who made history by winning a 2022 special election via ranked-choice voting, has also gained traction in her reelection campaign, polling at 48% in mid-October, up from 40% in September.
Democrats in the state see this as an encouraging trend, even as Alaska remains a Solid Republican state in presidential races according to Cook Political Report.
The Alaska Survey Research poll, conducted between October 20 and 22 with 1,949 respondents, has a margin of error of ±2.2%. Both Trump and Harris’ campaigns have been contacted for comment.
