Town Pursues Sale of Tavern Site

The Derry Town Council has unanimously agreed to pursue the sale of the former Pinkerton Tavern property on Route 28/Manchester Road.
The property is Parcel ID 08274 and is located at 13 Manchester Road.
At the Dec. 3 Council meeting, Acting Town Administrator Larry Budreau explained that its approval was the third step in the process. The property has gone through two public hearings, the last one Nov. 19. “This is when you decide whether or not you want to sell it,” he told the Council.

Budreau emphasized that the vote was on whether or not to sell the property, and not for a specific sale.
Budreau wrote in a memo that the 1.38 acres, the former Pinkerton Tavern site, was purchased by the town in 2011 in order to help with the widening of Manchester Road/Route 28. The building on the land was dismantled in 2012. The purchase price was $722,842. It is currently assessed at $255,500 and is being marketed by Colliers International, Budreau wrote.
Budreau wrote that the property, in the town’s TIF (Tax Increment Financing) District, would generate approximately $7,500 per year in tax revenue if sold to a private developer, and would have the potential for more.
The board voted 6-0-0 to give Budreau the authority to sell the land.
