Tennessee Task Force One Wraps Up Rescue Operations After Hurricane Helene Devastation

Tennessee Task Force One, an elite search and rescue team composed of 80 first responders from various Mid-South communities, has successfully concluded operations in Avery County, North Carolina, following the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene.

Avery County, one of the hardest-hit areas, has seen severe damage, with over half of the storm’s 230 reported fatalities occurring in North Carolina.

For the past week, the team, which includes firefighters, paramedics, doctors, engineers, and canine units from Bartlett, Collierville, Germantown, Memphis, Milan, Millington, and Shelby County, has been conducting intense rescue efforts.

They primarily worked on foot, navigating areas where roads had been completely washed away by the floodwaters.

Their return marks the conclusion of a critical mission in helping this small, rural community of 17,000 residents.
