Jacob Vanderburg, 31, was arrested in Tennessee after accidentally calling 911, leading authorities to his motel room where a stolen 6-foot crucifix was found under his blanket.
Vanderburg allegedly stole the religious item from St. Paul Catholic Church in Florida in early December.
The theft occurred when Vanderburg, after being denied permission to drink a red cup inside the church, claimed he was just looking for Jesus before snatching the crucifix.
He reportedly dragged a church staffer across the parking lot during the theft.
Vanderburg was later arrested in Tennessee and charged with robbery, trespassing, and theft.
