Suspect Arrested in CVS Robbery

Derry police have arrested a suspect in the Sept. 16 robbery of the CVS store on East Broadway and Crystal Avenue.

Derry Police Capt. Vern Thomas said this week that Edward Hewitt, 19, of no known address was charged with robbery. Hewitt turned himself in to the Derry Police Department on the arrest warrant and also on an electronic bench warrant out of Keene for Failure to Appear.
Hewitt was transferred to the Rockingham County House of Correction in Brentwood pending arraignment, where he is being held on $25,000 cash bail for the robbery and $500 cash for the bench warrant.
The robbery was reported to Derry Police Sept. 16 at 3:28 a.m., after a suspect was reported to have entered the store and drawn a handgun. He led the clerk and other employees back to the pharmacy section, demanded drugs from the pharmacist on duty, took the drugs and fled the store. An initial search by the Derry Police, with the assistance of the New Hampshire State Police canine unit, was unsuccessful.
