State Representative Wendy Dant Chesser D-Jeffersonville announced plans to draft an ethics bill in response to the corruption scandal involving former Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel.
During a press conference at the Jeffersonville Library, Rep. Chesser emphasized the importance of maintaining public trust in community safety officials, which was compromised by Noel’s actions.
The proposed legislation aims to strengthen financial reporting requirements and increase transparency for fire and emergency medical service boards.
It will also introduce mandatory ethics training for board members to prevent future abuses of power.
Jamey Noel, who was convicted on 27 felony charges, including theft and official misconduct, was sentenced to 12 years in prison after stealing millions of dollars from local departments, including New Chapel EMS and the Utica Township Volunteer Fire Department.
