Standout Capozzi Paces PA Gymnasts Once Again

The sky is apparently the only limit for Pinkerton Academy gymnastics star Brittany Capozzi this winter.

Led by senior tri-captain and all-around events’ stalwart Capozzi in a second consecutive meet, the defending state champion Lady Astros powered their way to a sweep of three opposing teams in Derry this past Monday night, Jan. 5. And Capozzi’s performance stood right at the heart of the successful evening as she won all of the individual events and the all-around as well.

The three-team sweep moved coach Chelsie Burland’s Pinkerton team’s 2014-15 record up to 8-0. The victorious hosts nabbed a winning score of 135.3 to easily best the Pelham High Lady Pythons (119.05), Windham High School’s Lady Jaguars (95.1), and the Spaulding High Lady Red Raiders from Rochester (94.95).

Capozzi proved unbeatable in the vaulting (score of 9.0), on the uneven bars (9.0), on the balance beam (9.3), in the floor exercise (9.0), and in the all-around (36.3). Her teammate Julianna Corsetto finished second in the all-around with her fine tally of 33.85 as the academy squad rolled.

Corsetto snared second places on the balance beam (9.15) and the uneven bars (8.4) and nabbed a third in the floor exercise (8.2). A third place on bars was also contributed by sophomore Liz Bilideau, who tallied a score of 8.0.
