Special School Election on Contract is June 25

Derry residents will be asked to vote on a reworked contract for the paraprofessionals in the Derry Cooperative School District’s schools at a special meeting Tuesday, June 25. Voting for everyone in Derry will be from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Gilbert H. Hood Middle School.

The original contract was voted down in the March election. A public hearing on the revised contract was held May 14 and a deliberative session May 28, during which the contract survived a challenge from several residents concerned about taxes.

The new contract calls for a 10 cent per hour raise in 2013-14, a 15 cent per hour raise in 2014-15 and a 15 cent per hour raise in 2015-16. It would require $57,759 the first year, $51,423 the second year and $52,107 the third and final year.

It is approximately $26,000 less than the contract rejected in March. Absentee ballots are available at the Superintendent’s office, 18 South Main St. Results will be posted online at www.nutpub.net on Wednesday, June 26.
