South Dakota Revenue Worker Pleads Guilty to Forgery and Theft Charges

A former South Dakota Department of Revenue employee, Lynn Hunsley, was sentenced on Monday after pleading guilty to charges of fraud.

Hunsley, who had been indicted on seven fraud-related counts, pleaded guilty to one count of Forgery and one count of Grand Theft by Deception.

She was sentenced to three years in prison, with the sentence suspended for the Forgery charge, and one year suspended for the Grand Theft by Deception charge.

Additionally, Hunsley was placed on three years of probation, fined $1,000 combined on both charges, and ordered to pay $1,200 in restitution.

The charges stemmed from Hunsley’s actions while working in the South Dakota Division of Motor Vehicles, where she falsified records between January 2021 and June 2023. The case was announced by South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley in October.
