Sen. London Lamar’s Turkey Giveaway Brings Early Thanksgiving Joy to Over 150 Families

Memphis, Tenn. — Thanksgiving arrived early for more than 150 Mid-South families, thanks to Tennessee State Senator London Lamar’s first turkey giveaway. The event, held at Red Zone Ministries in Orange Mound, distributed over 160 frozen turkeys to families in need in under 15 minutes.

Lines began forming well before the noon start time, with dozens wrapping around the building. Inside, volunteers from Elite Performance worked efficiently, handing out turkeys to grateful community members.

“This is a blessing,” said Pamela Cecily Robinson, who was among those waiting in line. “A lot of people are in need and didn’t know where they’d get their turkeys for Thanksgiving. This shows the strength of a community coming together.”

The giveaway highlights the ongoing food insecurity in Tennessee. A recent study by East Tennessee State University revealed that one in four Tennesseans experienced hunger in the past year due to financial hardship.

Sen. Lamar, reflecting on the event’s success, expressed her commitment to continuing community support. She announced plans to host her annual toy drive next month in collaboration with the same organizations, ensuring holiday cheer for more families in need.
