A Wisconsin man, Romuan Jovaes Moye, 45, has been sentenced to over 45 years in prison after admitting guilt in the death of his 12-year-old son.
Moye pleaded guilty to charges of first-degree reckless homicide, chronic neglect of a child, and failing to report the death of a child, according to court records. McClatchy News was unable to reach Moye’s attorney for comment.
On October 7, Jay Moye, 22, discovered his younger brother, Jacarie Robinson, dead at their father’s home, WITI reported.
A criminal complaint revealed that a witness informed authorities that Romuan Moye had kept Jacarie away from the family for months. When the witness did see Jacarie, he appeared extremely thin.
Moye had two other children, ages 15 and 17, but they had been staying with their mothers for two weeks before Jacarie’s body was found, according to McClatchy News.
Court records state that Jacarie was extremely malnourished and emaciated with moderate decomposition. His body weighed just 54 pounds at the time of the autopsy, officials said.
When I read Jacarie’s autopsy, I couldn’t believe it, Jacarie’s mother said in court, as reported by WTMJ.
After Jacarie’s body was found, Romuan Moye was wanted by police for several months, WDJT reported. He was eventually arrested in February.
On August 29, Moye appeared in court and was sentenced to 47.5 years in prison, followed by 20 years of supervised release.
