On Forbes Newsroom, Rep. William Timmons R-S.C. criticized President Joe Biden for pardoning his son, Hunter Biden, accusing the president of breaking his earlier promises not to do so.
We all knew he would, Timmons said. But it’s disappointing that he spent six months lying to the American people about it.
On Sunday, President Biden shocked many by pardoning Hunter for any crimes he committed or might have committed since 2014. Hunter Biden had been found guilty of tax crimes and was awaiting sentencing later this month. The pardon has drawn criticism from both Republicans and Democrats, particularly because Biden had publicly vowed not to pardon his son.
“We always knew this was coming, Timmons added. “Why did he have to keep lying about it?”
Timmons had previously predicted that the president would pardon his son.
“I’m not surprised at all,” Timmons said. “But it’s sad. Joe Biden has been in office for nearly 50 years, and this will be his legacy.”
Timmons also addressed reports that President Biden may consider pardoning others, possibly as a way to shield them from investigations by President-elect Trump’s Justice Department.
“He’ll probably pardon Jim Biden too, Timmons speculated, referring to the president’s brother. Some lawmakers predict more Biden family members could receive pardons. Timmons warned that if members of Congress, especially those who served on the January 6 Committee, are also pardoned, it would mark a very sad day for this country.
