Rep. Madeleine Dean Slams Trump’s Tulsi Gabbard Nomination for Director of National Intelligence

Rep. Madeleine Dean D-Pa. criticized President-elect Trump’s decision to appoint former Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard Hawaii as director of national intelligence, calling it an “unserious and dangerous” choice for a critical role.

“She’s not a serious pick for this extraordinarily important position,” Dean said in an interview on MSNBC. The role involves overseeing 18 intelligence agencies and safeguarding sensitive national secrets, she emphasized.

Trump announced Gabbard’s nomination, praising her as a dedicated public servant and a unifying figure with bipartisan support. He highlighted her military service and her previous run for the Democratic presidential nomination, calling her a proud Republican who would bring “fearless” leadership to the role.

However, Gabbard has faced criticism for controversial actions, including sharing content aligning with Russian narratives about U.S. biological weapons in Ukraine and meeting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, accused of using chemical weapons, seven years ago.

Dean questioned Gabbard’s qualifications, noting her limited engagement during their shared time in Congress. “She was seldom present…often engaging with talking points aligned with Vladimir Putin or visiting Assad,” Dean said. Gabbard’s confirmation by the Senate remains pending.
