Red Star Twirlers Continue Winning Ways

The Red Star Twirlers are off to another great year, founder and director Gina Hutchinson said, noting this year’s team is smaller but its achievements continue to roll in.

She said local team members Emily Cowette of Londonderry and Isabella Bolduc of Derry won several awards at Pennsylvania State University, then came back to New Hampshire to win all the advanced titles in their age groups.”

Hutchinson added that Derry native Alyssa McLaughlin, who led the University of Connecticut Husky Band, heads to St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands for Memorial Day to twirl in festival parade. McLaughlin is on track to become a twirling judge in the next few months, Hutchinson said. Hutchinson has been a judge for decades, and has traveled throughout the country, as well as overseas, to judge competitions.

At the recent New Hampshire State Championships, held at Merrimack High School, Red Star teams won all nine of the divisions they entered. They are now gearing up for May 16, when twirlers from all over the East Coast will come to Derry to compete in the Northern New England Team Championships and Miss Majorette of New Hampshire at West Running Brook Middle School. Coaches KeriAnn Lynch, Ashley Tiller and Hutchinson are hoping this is a good practice for the National Championships at the University of Notre Dame in July.
