Pennsylvania is considering new rules to make rideshare journeys safer for passengers, thanks to a proposed bill from Rep. Tim Brennan (D-Bucks County). This legislation suggests specific steps that drivers for services like Uber and Lyft must take to ensure passengers feel secure.
Rep. Brennan’s memo highlights the widespread use of rideshare services, noting that half of young adults aged 18 to 29 and a quarter of those aged 50 and above have used these services.
The proposed bill focuses on three key safety measures for drivers:
1. Illuminated Markers or Signs: Drivers would be required to have signs or markers that can light up, making it easier for passengers to identify their vehicles.
2. Barcodes: Barcodes should be visible in the rear and passenger windows, making them scannable for verification purposes.
3. Credential Placards: Drivers must display placards with their photo, name, and the license plate number of their vehicle.
Although the bill hasn’t been formally introduced yet, Rep. Brennan is rallying support from fellow lawmakers to push this legislation forward.
