The lawsuit involving Wabash National Corporation, a Lafayette-based trucking company, highlights concerns about accommodations for pregnant employees. According to the lawsuit, a pregnant employee who requested a transfer to a position that didn’t require her to lie on her stomach was instead offered unpaid leave as her only option. The EEOC Equal Employment Opportunity Commission claims that the company also unlawfully asked for medical documentation, which led the employee, nearly eight months pregnant, to resign due to concerns about her pregnancy’s health.
Wabash National Corporation, in response, stated that it is committed to the care of all its employees, including pregnant ones, and complies with relevant laws.
This case underscores the importance of workplace accommodations for pregnant workers, and the federal protections in place to ensure fair treatment.
