The calendar says summer is still in the future, but it is never too early to start thinking about the excitement generated by Derryfest.
This year’s theme for the 25th anniversary Derryfest is “Come Celebrate,” and that’s what organizers of Derry’s town fair want everyone to do.
“We are celebrating one of Derry’s most enduring and positive traditions on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at MacGregor Park,” said Michael Gendron, co-chairperson of the Derryfest Committee. “We have already begun planning for this year’s annual great day of fun, food, games, entertainment and surprises. We’ll even be celebrating our anniversary with a large birthday cake for all to enjoy.”
The committee said Beatlejuice, a Beatles tribute band, will headline the day’s entertainment. Alex the Jester will entertain the young as well as the young at heart, and the Bel Airs will return for a trip down memory lane with their Doo Wop show.
Homegrown celebrities will also play a big role in the entertainment, with Derry’s Red Star Twirlers presenting a baton twirling show.
The W.I.L.D. Center & Zoological Park of New England will return with its wild animal zoo, which will be set up throughout the day. A wildlife presentation will take place on the main stage as well.
Gendron encourages all residents to attend, and said it will be “the most exciting Derryfest yet.”
The committee invites local businesses to sign up as a sponsor; to do so, contact Gendron at [email protected].
The committee is also currently accepting booth applications for food vendors, crafters, businesses and non-profit organizations. To learn more about reserving a booth, visit www.derryfest.org and click on the “Vendors” tab to download an application.
The committee is making plans to honor many of the folks who have helped make Derryfest a tradition for 25 years. “To make this happen,” Gendron said, “we’ll be inviting back many of the original committee members to thank them for their contributions.”
The Derryfest committee is always looking for new ideas and welcomes new members to join. To sign up for the Derryfest Committee, email [email protected].
