Pinkerton Academy’s boys’ and girls’ track and field contingents enjoyed plenty of success in their home meet against the Concord High School crews in Derry on Tuesday, May 20.
The Astro males made quick work of the Crimson Tide guys in a 109-36 blowout, and the Lady Astros were also able to celebrate that day after handing the visiting Concord girls a more modest 75-69 defeat.
BOYS
The academy guys grabbed 14 first-place finishes in thumping Concord, with T.J. Urbanik winning the 100-meter dash (11.51 seconds) and the javelin (149 feet, 9 inches); John Davis going tops in the discus (118’1”) and the shot put (40’7”); Erik Goulet proving unbeatable in the triple jump (39’4”) and the high jump (5’8”), and the 4×100 (44.67) and 4×400 (3:31.94) relay quartets winning out.
Other firsts came from Zach Cicio in the 200 dash (22.56), Joe Poggi in the 400 dash (51.05), Connor Kwiecien in the 800 run (2:00.37), Nick Sevilla in the 1600 run (4:35.52), Phil Parent in the 3200 run (9:59.48), and Isaiah Backels in the pole vault (11’6”).
Then this past Saturday at Londonderry High, the Astro boys also represented themselves well at the much larger third annual Londonderry Invitational.
First places were bagged by Urbanik in both the javelin (152’3”) and the 300-meter hurdles (40.36), Cicio in the 200 (22.25), Nolan Cooney in the 800 (1:58.40), and the 4×100 (44.37) and 4×800 (7:57.01) relay teams.
GIRLS
In the pleasing defeat of Concord early last week, the Lady Astros got event wins from Brianna Warnick in the 100 dash (12.98) and the 200 (26.81), Jacqueline Greazzo in the high jump (4’4”) and the triple jump (30’5”), Kayla Watson in the shot (34’9”) and the discus (104’3”), Morgan Sansing in the 3200 (11:28.21), and Sydney Sandell in the javelin (96’6”).
The academy ladies also got a win from their 4×100 relay team (53.47).
