Pinkerton Academy’s two track and field contingents both put forth strong showings at a pair of competitions last week.
The Astros’ male and female teams both enjoyed success in dual-meet battles with the tracksters from Manchester Central early in the week, and then over the weekend they had numerous athletes stand tall with their individual efforts at the Londonderry Invitational.
BOYS
The Astro males enjoyed a lopsided success Tuesday, May 19, in a 124-21 throttling of Manchester Central in Derry.
The hosts received multiple event victories from Erik Goulet in the high jump (5 feet, 8 inches), the long jump (18′ 7 1.2″), and the triple jump (41’9 3/4″). Single wins came from Nico Buccieri in the 100-meter dash (11.53 seconds), Josh Johnston in the 200 (23.33), Jadyn Ruimwijk in the 400 (52.67), Jason Perry in the 1600 (4:51.54), Jeff Reddy in the 3200 (9:56.12), Evan Rodgers in the 110 hurdles (17.55), Devin Conway in the 300 hurdles (43.80), and Joey Lydick in the discus (117’5″).
The locals also won the 4×100 relay (45.77) and the 4×400 (3:45.23).
Then at the Londonderry (High) Invitational on Saturday, May 23, the Pinkerton guys claimed a top-three sweep in the 3200, thanks to the work of winner Reddy (9:42.27), Tom Hanlon in second, and Nick Pietrocarlo in third. They also had Isaiah Backels win the pole vault (13′) and the 4×100 quartet of Ryan Lynch, Sam Lanternier, Kevin Johnson, and Ruimwijk wind up victorious (3:26.74).
GIRLS
In its dual meet with Manchester Central in Derry Tuesday, May 19, the local crew tallied a 95-39 win.
The Lady Astros got multiple event victories from Nicole Alves in the 100 dash (13.17) and the 200 (27.32) and Kayla Watson in the shot (31’11 1/2″) and the discus (97’1″).
Other event wins came from Madi Smith in the 400 (1:04.20), Sarah Gates in the 1600 (5:50.68), Morgan Sansing in the 3200 (11:26.17), Maria Virga in the 110 hurdles (18.30), Nora Robichaud in the 300 hurdles (52.10), Michaela Blackwell in the long jump (15’5 1/2″), Hannah Rogers in the triple jump (33’1″), and Shaun Grinnell in the javelin (98’2″).
The Pinkerton ladies’ 4×100-meter relay quartet also snared a victory with its strong finishing time of (52.66).
At the annual Londonderry Invitational, the determined Lady Astros had Sansing win both the 1600 (5:16.80) and the 3200 (11:34.75), Rogers win the triple jump (34’4 1/2″), and Watson win the shot (32’10”).
