The Manchester Central Little Green girls’ volleyball squad proved to be no impediment to the Pinkerton Academy lady spikers and their desire to keep their 2014 record perfect last week.
Last Friday, Oct. 3, coach Todd Royce’s Lady Astros traveled to the Queen City and snagged a 3-0 victory over the winless Central side, posting rather lopsided individual game wins of 25-12, 25-18, and 25-13 in pushing their season record up to 11-0.
Elizabeth Hicks tallied 14 service points and 11 assists, Maggie Gildea was good for 13 service points with nine aces, and Lexi Verreault collected 11 digs for the winning side.
And the Lady Astros’ home match against the Alvirne High Lady Broncos this past Monday, Oct. 6, was an immense success in a bunch of ways for the academy crew.
The varsity girls only had to play three sets to move their season record to 12-0 and dispose of the 3-8 visitors.
The hosts notched game wins of 25-15, 25-23, and 25-11, with Elizabeth Hicks claiming 23 service points (with eight aces) and 21 assists and Lexi Verreault ending up good for 23 digs.
It was also “Dig Pink” night for the Lady Astros, and they raised some $900 for the breast cancer cause with a bake sale and other activities around the match.
Many of the team members were wearing pink attire during the game.
