Pinkerton Grapplers Recover and Return to Action

After dealing with a team-wide illness and having to cancel several matches, the Pinkerton Academy wrestling team got back down to competition last week and closed out its regular season in anticipation of this coming Saturday’s Division I championship event at Concord High School.

Coach Dave Rhoads’ grapplers had their struggles during their matches last Friday and Saturday, but managed some success.

In the much-anticipated dual match with rival Londonderry in Derry last Friday, Feb. 14 which was rescheduled from its original date of a week before due to the PA squad’s illness the visiting Lancers achieved a solid, 40-25 victory.

The host Astros received victories from Dylan Barreiro in the 170-pound bout (a 4-0 decision), Kevin Ell at 220 pounds (major decision), and Ben Trickett in the 285-pound contest (by pin). Eric Daigle (120 pounds) and Danny Villa (138) both received forfeit victories for PA.

The next day, Rhoads’ roster played host to the Bedford High Bulldogs and the Spaulding High Red Raiders from Rochester and pulled out a split. The hosts lost to Bedford (46-23) but easily outdueled Spaulding (30-0).

Among Pinkerton’s bout winners were Shayne McCann at 113 pounds, Brett Wilson in the 152-pound class, Barreiro at 170, Joey Lydick at 195 pounds, and Ell at 220.
