For the third year, Pinkerton Academy’s graduation will be held at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester rather than on campus.
Headmaster Mary Anderson and the Board of Trustees had considered bringing the commencement back home to the Derry campus in honor of the school’s bicentennial in 2014. But, she wrote in a letter to parents, safety concerns have convinced them to stay with the Verizon.
Anderson wrote in a recent letter to parents that the logistics of hosting 5,000 people included “safety, security, accessibility and parking.” She added that “adverse weather” was also a concern.
Anderson wrote that Pinkerton wanted to provide early notice so families can make plans.
“In a few months, seniors will end one chapter of their life and start the next,” Anderson wrote. “Parents, you have worked hard to get your children to this stage in life, and you can be very proud of your child’s accomplishments.”
The 2014 graduation will be held Monday, June 16, at 4 p.m., at the Verizon Wireless Arena.
