First-year coach Jeff Sojka watched his Pinkerton Academy golf squad close out its regular season last week with strong showings both in Nashua and on its own home links in Derry.
The Astros finished right in the center of the small pack of three teams at the par-35 Nashua Country Club Tuesday, Sept. 29, with a team score of 204. That tally placed the Pinkerton troop behind host Bishop Guertin (180) and the rival Londonderry High Lancers (212).
The academy crew’s leading scorer that day was Jarrod Foster, who finished in a tie for fourth with his score of 37. Lauren Thibodeau wound up seventh overall with a 39, and teammate Matt Hall was right behind her in eighth place with a 40.
Three days later on their home course at the Hoodkroft Country Club, the Astros swept a three-squad match with a team score of 198. Bishop Guertin ended up second (204) to finish the regular season with a 15-5 record, and Nashua South (231) closed out its regular season with a 6-14 mark.
PA sophomore standout Thibodeau paced everybody with her excellent match score of 32, with Guertin’s Tom Ethier a full five strokes behind her in second place.
Lewis White of Pinkerton wound up third (40), Erin DelloRusso ended up tied with her teammate Marshall Halpin and two BG golfers (all scored a 41) in fourth place.
The Astros and their opponents now prepare for the Division I state team tournament at the Hanover Golf Course on Thursday, Oct. 8.
