Pinkerton Academy’s swim teams made the short trip to Londonderry last Friday night, Jan. 16, for a much-anticipated Ball Family Trophy road meet against the Londonderry High School Lancers. And veteran coach Ed Faszewski and his academy charges ended up experiencing an evening that balanced resounding victory with defeat.
The Astros’ boys’ team had little to no trouble vanquishing the host Lancer boys in a 110-60 decision, but the Lady Astro swimmers proved unable to get past the Lady Lancers in a 95-75 final.
BOYS
Bernard Suwirjo and Zach Denbow wound up the prime producers for the Pinkerton males, with Suwirjo winning both the 200-yard freestyle (time of 1 minute, 55.92 seconds) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:14.05), and Denbow proving unbeatable in the 200-yard individual medley (2:07.71) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.92).
Bernard’s brother Hendrick also snared an individual win for PA in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.16), and Bernard, Hendrick, and their 400-yard free relay teammates Austin Walls and Denbow combined for a win as well (3:38.59).
GIRLS
Faszewski’s Pinkerton girls only managed to win two events, and those victories came thanks to the fine efforts of Hannah Terry in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.18) and Nicole Beals in the 100-yard backstroke (1:08.40). The Lady Astros also claimed second place in the 100 back as Sara Muller finished right behind her teammate Beals.
Other Pinkerton second places were delivered by the 400 free relay quartet, Beals in the 200 free, Terry in the 200 IM, and Jocelyn Hutchinson in the 500-yard freestyle event.
