Oregon State Fire Marshal Team Aids North Carolina’s Hurricane Helene Recovery

This article highlights the efforts of the Oregon State Fire Marshal OSFM team deployed to North Carolina to assist in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

More than three weeks after the storm made landfall, North Carolina is still grappling with the devastation, including 95 confirmed storm-related deaths and 90 people still missing.

The OSFM team, which has experience in hurricane recovery efforts, is on the ground helping restore vital infrastructure, such as roads, particularly in the hard-hit areas northeast of Asheville.

As the region braces for colder weather, concerns are growing about the lack of basic resources like water and shelter, with freezing temperatures setting in at night.

Despite the challenges, community efforts to aid storm victims are underway, including setting up donation centers in department stores and establishing temporary shelters.

The OSFM team, led by members like Melanie Kinne, remains committed to helping families recover before returning to Oregon on October 31.
