The search for a missing nurse in Oregon has ended tragically, as police found her body and arrested her neighbor for murder.
Beaverton Police announced on Saturday that they discovered the remains of 32-year-old Melissa Jubane, who disappeared just two weeks after marrying Bryan Llantero from Hawaii.
Family members shared that Melissa and Bryan had been together for nearly ten years before their wedding on August 24 in Hawaii. After returning to Oregon on September 1, the couple spent Labor Day together before Melissa was due back at work on September 3. She made it to her shift that day but did not show up for work the next morning.
When coworkers at St. Vincent Hospital in Portland became worried, police were called to Melissa’s home. Her car was still parked, but her bag, wallet, and keys were missing. Her phone was also turned off, making it impossible for her family and friends to reach her.
After investigating, police determined that a neighbor, 27-year-old Bryce Johnathan Schubert, was involved in Melissa’s disappearance. Schubert has been arrested and charged with her murder. He is expected to appear in court on Monday.
The Beaverton Police Department thanked the community for their help during the search and expressed condolences to Melissa’s loved ones. They stated that further details would be withheld to protect the investigation.
Bryan’s mother, Imelda Llantero, said her son is heartbroken. “I miss her so much,” she said, adding that the couple had been very happy together.
Melissa’s employer, Providence St. Vincent, released a statement mourning her loss, calling her an exceptional nurse who showed compassion and integrity. The University of Portland, where she graduated in 2018, also expressed their condolences, saying Melissa would be greatly missed.
