The people of Akron, Ohio, are facing a heart-wrenching situation after a devastating mass shooting took place just past midnight on Sunday. One person lost their life, and 24 others were injured, some very severely. Mayor Shammas Malik and Police Chief Brian Harding are pleading with anyone who witnessed the tragedy to come forward with any information they may have.
Mayor Malik stressed the profound impact this incident has had on the entire community, saying, “This was a tragic event that deeply affects us all.” He reassured residents that those responsible for the violence will be held accountable under the law.
As of now, the identity of the person who lost their life, a 27-year-old man, hasn’t been disclosed. The injured victims range from 19 to 43 years old, with at least two in critical condition, as stated by Akron police Capt. Michael Miller.
Although investigations are ongoing, no arrests have been made yet. Authorities are urging anyone who knows anything relevant to reach out to the detectives.
To encourage cooperation, rewards totaling $22,500 have been offered by different agencies, including $5,000 from Summit County Crime Stoppers, $7,500 from the U.S. Marshal’s Service, and up to $10,000 from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
