In a recent candidate forum held in Fairbanks, Alaska, U.S. House candidates Nick Begich and incumbent Mary Peltola shared their views on key economic issues, including resource development, energy, and the state’s minimum wage.
Hosted by the Alaska Chamber and the Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce, the event gave both candidates the opportunity to address Ballot Measure 1, which focuses on raising the minimum wage, paid sick leave, and workers’ protections.
Begich, running for Alaska’s sole U.S. House seat, stated his opposition to the measure, while Peltola expressed her support.
The discussion occasionally grew heated as the candidates challenged each other on their positions, but it concluded on a lighter note, with each sharing compliments.
Begich acknowledged Peltola’s dedication to fisheries, while Peltola praised Begich’s business acumen and commitment to running for the seat.
The Alaska election is set for November 5, with early voting starting on October 21.
