A team of junior bull riders from America, including three teens from New Mexico, recently won a bull riding competition in Australia.
It was an amazing feeling, the best ever, said 13-year-old Jace Green from Dexter, New Mexico.
Green was one of the riders who competed against Australia in the junior bull riding event. He performed exceptionally well, winning three rounds and placing second in another. “I made a lot of friends, and it was a fun trip, Green added.
The team returned to New Mexico last Tuesday after spending about three weeks in Australia. Green’s performance was a highlight, as he scored nearly half of his team’s points, helping them secure a victory over Australia.
It’s all about your mindset, Green said. If you feel confident, you can ride anything.
In their first competition, Green won the first round and tied for first in the second. In the next event, he won the first round again and finished second in the final round.
Green has been riding in competitions since he was a little kid, starting with sheep. Riding runs in his family—both of his parents earned full-ride rodeo scholarships in college, and his mom’s family has been involved in rodeo for generations.
He’s really skilled, said Jared Green, Jace’s dad. He rides well and ropes well.
Jace Green will compete again in a few weeks at a junior high rodeo in Socorro.
