New Hampshire s Amtrak Stations: A Look at 2023 Ridership Trends

DOVER, NH — Amtrak continues to play a vital role in New Hampshire, connecting thousands of passengers each year to major cities across the Northeast.

In its FY 2023 ridership report, Amtrak noted that 13 trains run daily through New Hampshire as part of the Downeaster and Vermonter routes, which link Boston to Maine and Washington, D.C., to Vermont.

A total of 169,496 passengers passed through the state’s Amtrak stations in FY 2023. Exeter was the busiest station, with 65,782 riders, followed by Durham with 50,485 passengers, and Dover with 50,144.

On the other hand, Claremont, located on the Vermonter route, was the least-used station, seeing just 3,085 passengers for the year, reflecting the difference in train use between rural and urban areas.

Despite varying station activity, New Hampshire remains an important part of Amtrak’s regional rail network, continuing to connect communities across the state and beyond.
