Megan Berry, the former Treasurer of the Caledonia Park Commission in Mississippi, has been arrested for allegedly embezzling public funds for her personal use. State Auditor Shad White announced the arrest today, stating that Berry was charged with one count of embezzlement.
Berry is accused of diverting money she was responsible for as part of her role with the Park Commission.
“We are dedicated to working with prosecutors on cases like this to protect taxpayers,” said Auditor White. “Thanks to our efforts, we’ve recovered more funds in the last six years than ever before. I want to thank the investigators who helped uncover this scheme.”
If convicted, Berry could face up to $25,000 in fines and up to 10 years in prison. It’s important to remember that she is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
The public can report suspected fraud to the Auditor’s office online at www.osa.ms.gov or by calling 1-(800)-321-1275 during business hours.
