An 11-year-old reported missing from Iowa was found early Monday morning, approximately 360 miles away at an Indiana gas station, according to police reports.
The Indiana State Police ISP were alerted by an Iowa City Police Department detective at 2 a.m. regarding a child abduction that took place on Sunday, involving a non-custodial parent believed to be en route to the East Coast.
Although authorities had limited information, ISP officers began searching the interstate. At 2:39 a.m., a trooper located a grey 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix at a gas station in Indianapolis, near Lafayette Road off I-65. Inside the vehicle were the missing child and two adults.
Ronique Pittman, 36, from Goldsboro, North Carolina, was arrested on an Iowa warrant for child abduction by a non-custodial parent.
The child was safely taken into custody by the Department of Child Services for reunification with their custodial parent.
