Milwaukee Hosts Educators for Harris-Walz Canvassing Event to Support Public Schools

On Saturday, officials and community leaders in Wisconsin gathered with educators and volunteers to launch the Educators for HarrisWalz canvassing effort in honor of World Teachers’ Day.

The event, focused on public education, was hosted at the Milwaukee Democratic office, where Milwaukee Public Schools MPS teachers were addressed by Luz Hernandez Vice President of the Milwaukee Teachers’ Education Association, Dr. James Ferguson presumptive MPS School Board Candidate, and Dr. Darryl Williams Assistant State Superintendent.

They spoke passionately about Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz’s commitment to strengthening public education.

Harris and Walz’s agenda includes improving public school funding, making child care and preschool affordable, reducing student loan debt, and enhancing college affordability.

Their platform stands in stark contrast to former President Trump’s Project 2025, which proposes slashing public school funding, including in rural areas, and eliminating the Department of Education and Head Start.

Luz Hernandez emphasized, Investing in public education is investing in our future.

Dr. Ferguson highlighted Harris’s pivotal role in delivering historic public education investments and addressing student debt, noting that Harris has long championed education, as seen in her advocacy during the 2024 AFT convention.

Dr. Williams urged educators not to take the election for granted, saying Harris and Walz are committed to securing the resources schools need.

Ferguson’s rallying call, We can’t underestimate the Republicans. Let’s get fired up and ready, energized attendees to take action for the future of public education.
