Speaker Mike Johnson is set to visit North Carolina on Wednesday as the state continues to recover from the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene.
Johnson announced the visit during a campaign rally near Dallas, Texas. His trip comes as search-and-rescue operations remain active in the hardest-hit areas of North Carolina.
The Speaker plans to focus on the western region of the state, where severe flooding from the storm has destroyed buildings and infrastructure.
While Georgia, another state hit hard by the hurricane, has already seen visits from both Vice President Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, Johnson’s visit highlights the GOP’s attention to the damage, especially in Republican-leaning parts of North Carolina.
This visit is part of Johnson’s larger campaign effort, as he tours 65 cities across 24 states in October to help House Republicans maintain their majority.
