Michigan HC Sherrone Moore Explains Addition of Tennessee Vols Transfer Wesley Walker

Last month, the Michigan Wolverines bolstered their roster by adding safety Wesley Walker, a transfer from the Tennessee Vols. Walker had initially transferred to Louisville earlier this offseason, participating in spring practice before re-entering the NCAA transfer portal and committing to Michigan.

Walker’s College Journey

Walker began his college football career at Georgia Tech before moving to Tennessee in 2022. During his tenure with the Vols, he recorded 89 tackles, including nine for loss, along with two sacks and an interception.

Coach Moore’s Perspective

Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore recently shared his thoughts on Walker’s addition during the SMSB National College Showcase in Detroit. Moore praised Walker’s experience, physical play, tackling ability, and coverage skills. He also highlighted that Walker had never allowed a touchdown while at Tennessee and commended his leadership qualities.

“Experience, physical, the dude loves to tackle and hit, a really good cover guy,” said Moore. “I think he hasn’t let up a touchdown in his career there (at Tennessee). So he’s just a dude. And he’s a leader. Like you can tell he’s a leader.”

Moore also emphasized Walker’s prominent role in media engagements at Tennessee, underscoring his leadership off the field.

Tennessee-Michigan Connections

Walker is the latest link between Tennessee and Michigan. Notably, Joe Milton, who played at Michigan before transferring to Tennessee, and current Wolverines linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary, who coached at Tennessee from 2021 to 2023, are other significant connections.

Additionally, Moore has ties to Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel from their time together at Oklahoma. By welcoming Walker, Michigan gains a seasoned and versatile player known for his leadership and defensive prowess.
