Meg Bryce Appointed to Virginia Board of Education by Governor Glenn Youngkin

Meg Bryce, daughter of the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, has been appointed by Governor Glenn Youngkin to the Virginia Board of Education. The governor has yet to fill the second open seat on the nine-member board.

Board President Grace Creasey expressed enthusiasm about Bryce joining the team, stating, “We are excited to have Dr. Bryce as a part of the team now. Thank you, and we look forward to all that your expertise will bring to our board.”

Bryce, a mother and college psychology teacher, has faced criticism for withdrawing her children from Virginia’s public schools after the pandemic. She explained to the Daily Progress that she lost confidence in the leadership at Murray Elementary School in Albemarle County.

Last year, Bryce ran unsuccessfully for a seat on the Albemarle County School Board, aiming to improve the school system. She has also criticized Albemarle County Schools for what she sees as a decline in standards and disregard for parents’ concerns.

In a CBS 19 interview, Bryce acknowledged that her connection to Scalia might lead some to view her as partisan, given his known positions on various social issues. She hoped that people would instead focus on her policies and the issues at hand.

Bryce attended her first meeting on the board during a work session on Wednesday and did not comment on her appointment at that time. She is expected to speak at the board’s business meeting on Thursday.
